Benjamin D. Scrivner is an Associate Attorney at Combs Waterkotte, where he represents individuals facing criminal charges throughout Missouri. With nearly a decade of trial and appellate experience, Benjamin brings a disciplined, strategic, and highly prepared approach to every case. He understands that effective criminal defense requires command of the evidence, a clear trial strategy, and the confidence to advocate for clients in the courtroom.
Before joining Combs Waterkotte, Benjamin operated his own litigation practice in St. Louis. As a sole practitioner, he handled cases from the initial client consultation through investigation, depositions, courtroom arguments, trial-court resolution, and appeal. He has served as lead or co-counsel in significant Missouri litigation and helped secure four published appellate decisions.
Benjamin’s experience in both trial and appellate courts provides a valuable perspective in criminal defense. He understands how courtroom decisions can shape the course of a case, how to preserve important legal issues, and how to identify errors that may affect a client’s rights.
Benjamin earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. He later earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law, where he participated in the UMKC Law Review and The Urban Lawyer. During law school, Benjamin served as a judicial intern to Judge Thomas Newton of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, reviewing appellate briefs and trial records and assisting with opinions involving post-conviction remedies.
At Combs Waterkotte, Benjamin carefully examines the prosecution’s evidence, identifies weaknesses and inconsistencies, and develops a focused defense strategy tailored to each client.
