Scott Michael Dunn: How much does it cost to hire a lawyer for a DUI in Illinois?
Joshua Boardman: There is not a good answer to that question because different attorneys charge different fees. But the general answer is it’s going to be based on whether or not it’s sort of an initial DUI. Are you a first-time offender or have you had multiple and now it falls into a felony classification where you’re dealing with prison eligibility. So it’s based on a case-by-case review. You can expect to spend, for a misdemeanor DUI, thousands of dollars on it because not only is it going to include the attorney’s fees for handling the case, not only the criminal case, but also the administrative case. But often times the court or the judge will want their pound of flesh by court costs and fees and taxes.
Dunn: Right? Principal fines. We’re already in the thousands.
Boardman: So you can expect it to be a multi, multi-thousand dollar incident.
