Scott Michael Dunn: How long does a DUI stay on your record? Is there a difference in Illinois?
Joshua Boardman: If you’re convicted of a DUI, then presently there are not mechanisms to have that removed from your record, which means a conviction would stay on your record. Like I said previously, if a DUI is dismissed or nollied by the state’s attorney is sort of the colloquial term, but if it’s dismissed, then you still can expunge those arrest records or investigation records or what have you.
Dunn: Expunging a DUI is complicated.
Boardman: It is.
Dunn: I’m sure, in many cases, unlikely?
Boardman: Yes. Do not expect that if you get convicted of a DUI in the state of Illinois that you will be able to (expunge it).
