570.135. Fraudulent procurement of a credit or debit card — penalty — limitation of liability.

It’s illegal to lie or steal someone’s info to get a credit or debit card.

This law makes it a crime to use false information or someone else’s identity to get a credit or debit card without permission.

1. A person breaks this law if they:

  1. Knowingly make a false statement about someone else to trick a bank into giving them a card;
  2. Get someone’s personal info without permission and use it to get credit, goods, or services in that person’s name;
  3. Knowingly have a credit or debit card that was fraudulently obtained.

2. This offense is a class A misdemeanor.

3. A business (like a company or store) is not guilty of this crime just for taking credit card applications or payments — unless there is clear proof the business helped commit the fraud.
