566.151. Enticement of a child, penalties.

Trying to lure a child under 15 for sex is a serious felony

In Missouri, it’s a felony for an adult to try to convince or lure a child under 15 into any kind of sexual activity—even if the child was actually an undercover police officer.

1. A person 21 or older commits this crime if they try to get someone under 15—through talking, actions, or any kind of online or electronic communication—to engage in sexual conduct.

2. It doesn’t matter if the “child” was actually a police officer pretending to be a minor. That is not a defense.

3. This sex offense (or even just attempting it) is a felony with a prison sentence of 5 to 30 years. The person cannot get parole, probation, or early release for at least the first 5 years of their sentence.
