Scott Michael Dunn: How much will my insurance increase after a DUI in Illinois?
Joshua Boardman: Each insurance company is going to evaluate one of their insured driving records…
Dunn: Risk factors, right?
Boardman: Risk factors differently. So, as defense counsel, we get this question a lot. What’s going to happen in three months, six months, or whatever. And the answer that I give to clients is that where there is a conviction for a DUI, you can expect that to have negative price impacts on your insurability moving forward. That’s why it plays into one of the big reasons why we try to negotiate away from convictions. And if the case is not what I would deem trial-worthy, one of the things that we’re always going to try to negotiate for is court supervision or some sort of non-conviction result because it’s definitely expected that it’ll have a negative impact on your insurability.
