Scott Michael Dunn: Do the Chicago, Illinois officers need a certification to administer these DUI tests?
Joshua Boardman: They do. All the officers that are responsible for conducting those types of tests have to have documented training and having that training presents their eligibility to conduct those types of tests. There has to be documented calibrations every so often with those to make sure that the breathalyzer equipment is within its acceptable margin of error. That way if you are giving a breathalyzer test and it comes up at .082, I mean, that’s not all that significant of a deviation from the legal limit. So, it’s important to them to always have training and certification, and it’s important on our side defending the defendant to confirm and verify that they are certified, have valid training, have valid experience and utilization, and then everything is up to snuff.
