Scott Michael Dunn: Can out-of-state Drivers lose driving privileges in Illinois after a DUI?

Joshua Boardman: They certainly can. So, many states have sort of an interstate compact where the administrative bodies, for example in Illinois it’s the Secretary of State, will report back to the administrative body in whichever state your license is issued. So a good example that we see here since we practice in Missouri and Illinois is if somebody gets a DWI in Missouri and their driving privileges are subject to suspension or revocation in Missouri. Missouri notifies Illinois and the law in Illinois is essentially that if the conduct that occurred in Missouri would also be illegal conduct in as far as driving goes in the state of Illinois, then Illinois can also take an adverse action against your license through suspension or revocation. And so that is just an example of how, whether that state’s Indiana or Kentucky or any of our neighboring states, they report back to each other. So, you may have a Kentucky license, but then your privileges in Illinois are impacted and your privileges down in Kentucky may be impacted.
