Scott Michael Dunn: Can a Juvenile Be Required to Register in Illinois?
Joshua Boardman: They sure can. One of the things that’s going to be different about a juvenile registry is once they reach that age of adulthood then there is a specific process for a juvenile petitioning once they have completed their reporting requirements and their juvenile disposition of that case. Once they’ve completed all their obligations and once those factors have all been met then they are able to petition to get off of that juvenile. That is certainly fact insensitive so to provide you a completely clear black and white answer on that would probably not be wise but generally that’s the process and so then a petition will be filed in the court in which their sentence or their disposition was imposed and that’s going to once again be a determination of do they qualify under the statutory requirements, are they no longer a threat to the community at large, things like that.
