720 ILCS 550/5.1 – Cannabis Trafficking

This law makes it illegal to bring large amounts of cannabis into Illinois to make or sell it.

If someone knowingly brings at least 2,500 grams of cannabis into Illinois or causes it to be brought here to make or sell, that person can be charged with cannabis trafficking and face serious prison time and fines.

(a) A person breaks this law if they knowingly bring, or cause someone else to bring, 2,500 grams or more of cannabis into Illinois to make or sell it. This includes bringing it from another state or country. The only time this is allowed is when the person has permission under the Industrial Hemp Act or the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act.

(b) Sentence: If a person is found guilty of cannabis trafficking, the punishment (both prison time and fine) is twice as much as the punishment for posessing the same amount.
