720 ILCS 5/29D-29.9 – Material Support for Terrorism
This law makes it a serious crime to give help or resources to anyone planning or doing acts of terrorism.
This Illinois law says that if someone knowingly gives money, supplies, or other help for terrorism, they can be charged with a very serious crime. The punishment can be many years in prison.
(a) A person breaks this law if they knowingly collect, raise, ask for, or give money, help, or resources knowing that these things will be used to plan, prepare, carry out, or hide from the police after doing terrorism or causing a large disaster. It also applies if they know or plan for their support to be used by a terrorist group to commit a terrorist act. The person does not have to actually know the group is officially listed as a terrorist organization for this to count.
(b) Sentence: This crime is a Class X felony. The punishment is prison for at least 9 years and as many as 40 years.
