720 ILCS 5/21.2-5 Definitions

This part of the chapter provides explanations for how certain words and phrases are used for this law.

“Public institution of education” means a school in Illinois that gets some amount of public funding.

“Due notice” is when a person is told, in writing or verbally, by an official from the school, to stop acting a certain way or to leave the property. Signs posted at the entrance of the school also count.

“Force or violence” includes taking actions that prevent people from being able to enter, leave, or use the school as intended. It can also include other forms of violence.
