720 ILCS 5/17-31 – False Statement to Procure Credit or Debit Card

This law says it’s illegal to lie to get a credit or debit card.

This Illinois law makes it a crime to write something false about who you are, where you live, or where you work, if you do it to get a credit or debit card. Breaking this law is a Class 4 felony, which is a serious crime.

Sec. 17-31. A person breaks this law if they write or help someone else write something false – and know it’s false – about their name, address, job, or another person’s information, trying to get a credit or debit card.

Sentence: Anyone found guilty of doing this commits a Class 4 felony, which can include fines and time in prison.
