720 ILCS 5/17-2(b)(7) – False Personation of a Parent or Legal Guardian

This law makes it illegal to pretend to be the parent or guardian of a child, or a person with a disability.

This Illinois law says that if a person pretends to be a child’s relative or legal guardian when talkign with a government worker or school employee. It also makes it illegal to pretend to be the legal guardian of a person with a disability. The sentence for violating this law depends on what exactly a person did.

(b)(7) Pretending to be a relative or guardian of a child to a public employee or school worker breaks this law.

(b)(7.5) Pretending to be a legal guardian of a person with a disability breaks this law.

(f) Sentence: A violation of subsection (b)(7) is a Class 3 felony, while a violation of subsection (b)(7.5) is a Class C misdemeanor.
