720 ILCS 5/17-13(c) – Fraudulent Land Sales

This law makes it illegal to sell or promise to sell the same piece of land to more than one person on purpose to cheat someone.

This statute says you can’t knowingly sell or promise to sell the same property to different people if you’re trying to cheat them. Doing so is a serious crime and can lead to a felony charge.

(c) Fraudulent land sales. A person who has already sold, traded, or agreed to sell a piece of land or a lot cannot, on purpose and with the goal of cheating someone, try to sell, trade, or agree to sell that same land or lot again to another person for money or anything valuable.

(d) Sentence: Fraudulent land sale is a Class 3 felony.
