720 ILCS 5/10-7 – Aiding or Abetting Child Abduction
This law makes it a crime to help someone plan or carry out a child abduction unless you try to stop it before it happens.
This Illinois law says that anyone who helps or encourages another person to kidnap a child can be charged with a felony, even if they don’t take the child themselves. It also allows someone to avoid guilt if they make a real effort to prevent the abduction before it happens.
(a) A person breaks this law if they help or support someone in planning or committing a child abduction, and they do so on purpose to make the crime happen. However, if the person tries to stop the abduction before it occurs, they are not guilty under this law.
(b) Sentence: Anyone who breaks this law can be charged with a Class 4 felony, which is a serious crime that can lead to jail time and other penalties.
