567.080. Prostitution houses deemed public nuisances.
Places used for prostitution can be shut down by the court.
If a building is used for prostitution on a regular basis, it’s considered a public nuisance, and legal action can be taken to close it.
1. Any room, building, or structure regularly used for prostitution under this chapter is considered a public nuisance.
2. The attorney general or local prosecutor can file a lawsuit to stop the nuisance. If the court finds that the owner knew or should have known about the prostitution activity, the court can ban use of the property for up to one year.
3. Anyone who helps or allows the nuisance—including owners, tenants, employees, or others—can be named in the lawsuit and banned from engaging in prostitution activity within the court’s area.
4. People can appeal the court’s decision just like in other civil cases.
