578.399. Sports Bribery, Second Degree — Penalty
Accepting a bribe to cheat in a game is a crime in Missouri
It’s illegal for athletes or others involved in a game to take a bribe to purposely lose or change the outcome of a sporting event.
1. A person commits sports bribery in the second degree if they:
- Are a player or are expected to take part in a sport or game
- Ask for, try to get, or accept a reward or benefit
- In exchange for purposely losing, trying to lose, or limiting the margin of victory
This includes anyone with responsibilities related to the game — not just players.
2. Sports bribery in the second degree is a class A misdemeanor.
