Scott Michael Dunn: What is discovery in a sex crime case?
Joshua Boardman: Discovery is going to be a synonym with evidence. So, whenever we get into a case, we’ll file a motion for discovery and what that does is it puts the state’s attorney’s office on notice that we are entitled to all the evidence that can or would be used against the defendant. So, that can be often times police reports. That can be any sort of DNA data or DNA testing that’s been done. That can be pictures, videos, text messages, social media posts. Like I said, witness statements, anything like that. So, think of discovery as all the evidence in the case.
