720 ILCS 5/16-40(a) – Internet Offenses: Online Sale of Stolen Property

This law makes it a crime to sell stolen goods online.

This law says that it’s against the law to use the Internet to try to sell something you got illegally. The punishment depends on how much the stolen property is worth.

(a) Online sale of stolen property. A person breaks this law if they use or go on the Internet planning to sell items that were stolen or gained through dishonest actions.

(d) Sentence: If the stolen property is worth $300 or less, it is a Class 4 felony. If the property is worth more than $300, it is a Class 2 felony.
