720 ILCS 646/50 – Methamphetamine-Related Child Endangerment

This law makes it illegal to put a child in danger around methamphetamine or its production.

This Illinois law says it is against the law to expose a child to places where methamphetamine is made or to let them be near meth labs. If the child is badly hurt or dies because of it, the crime becomes much more serious.

(a) Methamphetamine-related child endangerment.

  1. It is illegal to endanger a child by letting them be around or exposed to a place where methamphetamine is made. A person breaks this law when they knowingly put a child’s life or health at risk by doing this.
  2. Sentence: A person who does this commits a Class 2 felony.

(b) Aggravated methamphetamine-related child endangerment.

  1. It is illegal to endanger a child in this way if the child is killed, badly hurt, disabled, or disfigured because of it. This is called aggravated methamphetamine-related child endangerment.
  2. Sentence: A person who does this commits a Class X felony. They can be sent to prison for 6 to 30 years and fined up to $100,000.
