720 ILCS 5/30-3 – Advocating Overthrow of Government

This law makes it a serious crime to encourage or help spread ideas about violently overthrowing the Illinois government.

This law says that it is illegal to support or share materials that call for getting rid of or changing the Illinois government through violence or other illegal actions. Doing so is a Class 3 felony, which means it is a major crime.

Sec. 30-3. Advocating Overthrow of Government:

A person breaks the law if they encourage, or knowingly share, sell, or give out any paper, book, or other item that supports overthrowing or changing Illinois’s government through violence or illegal actions.

A person also breaks the law if they knowingly join a group that promotes overthrowing or changing the government through violence or illegal actions.

Sentence: Anyone who violates this section commits a Class 3 felony, which is a serious crime that can lead to prison time.
