720 ILCS 5/29-2 – Bribery in Contests (Accepting a Bribe)

This law makes it a crime for someone in a sports contest to take a bribe to not try their best.

This Illinois law says that if someone playing, judging, or helping run a sports event takes money or something valuable to perform poorly on purpose, they can be charged with a Class 4 felony.

Anyone who takes part in, judges, or is involved in a professional or amateur sports game, contest, or show, and accepts or agrees to accept money, gifts, or anything of value in return for not doing their best, is breaking the law.

Sentence: This crime is a Class 4 felony, which can lead to serious criminal charges and possible prison time.
