720 ILCS 5/12-32 – Ritual Mutilation
This law makes it a serious crime to hurt, cut, or torture someone during a ritual or ceremony without their real permission.
This Illinois law says that it’s illegal to harm or injure someone as part of a ritual or ceremony if they didn’t agree or couldn’t give real consent. It also explains that normal male circumcision is not considered ritual mutilation and that breaking this law is a Class 2 felony.
(a) A person commits ritual mutilation if they knowingly cut, harm, or torture another person during a ceremony, rite, performance, or practice, and the victim either did not agree or could not truly give permission.
(b) Ritual mutilation does not include male circumcision or any related ceremony or tradition.
(c) Sentence: Ritual mutilation is punished as a Class 2 felony, which is a serious crime.
