720 ILCS 5/12-10.3 – 720 ILCS 5/12-10.3 – False Representation to a Tattoo or Body Piercing Business as the Parent or Legal Guardian of a Minor

This law makes it illegal to pretend to be a parent or guardian so a minor can get a tattoo or body piercing.

This Illinois law says a person can’t lie about being a minor’s parent or legal guardian to help the minor get a tattoo or body piercing. If someone does, they can be charged with a Class C misdemeanor.

(a) A person who is not the parent or legal guardian of a minor breaks this law if they pretend to be the parent or guardian when talking to a tattoo or piercing business. This includes doing it for these reasons:

  1. Going with a minor to a tattoo shop when a parent or guardian must go with them under the law.
  2. Going with a minor to a body piercing shop when a parent or guardian must go with them under the law.
  3. Providing the written permission that is required from a parent or guardian for a minor to get a body piercing.

(b) Sentence: Pretending to be a parent or guardian in this way is a Class C misdemeanor, which can lead to fines or other legal consequences.
