720 ILCS 5/12-10.2 – Tongue Splitting

This law says that only licensed doctors or dentists can legally perform tongue splitting.

This Illinois law makes it illegal for anyone who isn’t a licensed medical doctor or dentist to cut a person’s tongue into parts. Doing it without a license can lead to criminal charges that get more serious with repeat offenses.

(a) “Tongue splitting” means cutting a person’s tongue into two or more sections.

(b) No one is allowed to perform tongue splitting on another person unless they have a medical or dental license under Illinois law. That means only qualified doctors or dentists can do it safely and legally.

(c) Punishment: If someone breaks this law for the first time, it’s a Class A misdemeanor, which can mean fines or jail time. If they do it again, it becomes a Class 4 felony, which is more serious and can lead to stronger penalties.
