It’s a misdemeanor to make threats or false reports that cause fear or disruption, even through carelessness.
This law makes it a crime to carelessly make threats or false claims that lead to fear, evacuations, or closures — even if the person didn’t mean for it to go that far but acted with criminal negligence.
1. A person commits third-degree making a terrorist threat if they act with criminal negligence and knowingly:
- (1) Make a clear or implied threat about something dangerous to life;
- (2) Falsely report a dangerous situation, knowing it’s untrue;
- (3) Cause others to wrongly believe something dangerous is happening.
2. Making a terrorist threat in the third degree is a class A misdemeanor.
3. This law does not apply to someone acting in good faith to prevent harm.
