570.027. Vehicle hijacking, offense of — penalties.
This law makes it a serious crime to use force or threats to take someone’s vehicle.
If you threaten or hurt someone to take their car or truck, it’s called vehicle hijacking and can be a felony.
1. A person commits vehicle hijacking if they knowingly use or threaten physical force to take or try to take control of a vehicle from someone who has it.
2. Vehicle hijacking is a class B felony unless it involves certain serious actions listed below.
3. Vehicle hijacking becomes a class A felony if the person or someone helping them during the hijacking:
- (1) Causes serious physical injury to someone near or in the vehicle;
 - (2) Has a deadly weapon;
 - (3) Uses or threatens to use a dangerous item against someone;
 - (4) Shows or threatens to use what looks like a deadly weapon or dangerous item;
 - (5) Takes or tries to take a vehicle with a child or special victim inside.
