579.155. Possession of prescription medication on school property — exceptions — penalty.

Having prescription meds at school without a prescription is against the law.

If you’re under 21 and carry prescription medication at school or on a school bus without a prescription, you can be charged with a crime.

1. It’s illegal for anyone under 21 to knowingly have prescription medicine (not including controlled substances) on school property or a school bus without a valid prescription.

2. This law doesn’t apply to:

  • People who are allowed to have the medication by school staff responsible for storing or handing it out under chapter 338
  • Emergency responders using the medication during emergencies
