565.150. Interference with custody — penalty.

Taking someone from legal custody without permission is a crime.

This law makes it illegal to take or lure someone away from their legal guardian or court-ordered custodian without having the legal right to do so.

1. A person breaks this law if they knowingly take or lure someone out of legal custody, even though a court has placed that person with someone else or an institution.

2. This is usually a class A misdemeanor. But if the person is taken out of Missouri, kept in another state, or hidden, it becomes a class E felony.

3. If found guilty, the court can order the person to pay back the legal guardian or parent for costs they had trying to find or bring the child back.
