565.130. Kidnapping, third degree, penalty.

Unlawfully holding someone is a crime, even without moving them.

This law makes it a crime to restrain someone without their consent and interfere with their freedom, even if they aren’t hurt or taken far away.

1. A person commits third-degree kidnapping if they knowingly hold someone against their will in a way that seriously limits their freedom.

2. This crime is a class A misdemeanor, unless the person is taken out of Missouri — then it becomes a class E felony.
