720 ILCS 685/4(e) – Failure to Display Required Warning Sign (Tobacco Products)

This law says stores selling tobacco must put up a warning sign saying it’s illegal to sell tobacco products to anyone under 21.

This Illinois law requires any business that sells tobacco or smoking herbs to post a clear sign warning that it’s illegal to sell to anyone under 21. If they don’t follow this rule, they can be charged with a Class C misdemeanor.

(e) Businesses that sell tobacco accessories or smoking herbs must hang a sign that can be easily seen. The sign must read: “SALE OF TOBACCO ACCESSORIES AND SMOKING HERBS TO PERSONS UNDER 21 YEARS OF AGE OR THE MISREPRESENTATION OF AGE TO PROCURE SUCH A SALE IS PROHIBITED BY LAW.” The words must be printed in red letters, at least half an inch tall, on a white background.

Sec. 5. Penalty.

(a) Sentence: Anyone who knowingly breaks this law, or causes someone else to break it, is guilty of a Class C misdemeanor.
