720 ILCS 5/8‑1.1 – Solicitation of Murder
This law makes it a serious crime to ask or tell someone to kill another person.
This Illinois law says it is illegal to ask, order, or encourage someone to commit murder. If you do, you can go to prison for many years, especially if you try to get a child to do it.
(a) A person breaks this law if they ask, tell, or encourage someone else to kill another person on purpose. The person must mean for the murder to really happen.
(b) The punishment for this crime is very serious. It is a Class X felony. This means the person must go to prison for at least 15 years and up to 30 years. If the person they asked to do the killing is younger than 17, the prison time goes up to between 20 and 60 years.
