720 ILCS 5/33E-18 – Unlawful Stringing of Bids

This law makes it illegal to split up government or school contracts to get around the bidding rules.

This law says that someone who tries to cheat the rules by breaking one big job into smaller ones, just to avoid open bidding, is committing a crime. It is treated as a Class 4 felony, which is a serious offense.

(a) A person breaks this law if they purposely try to avoid the normal bidding process for a government office or school district. This includes knowingly dividing or helping divide a contract or job order into smaller parts, or trying to do so, to get around the rules.

(b) Sentence: Breaking this law is a Class 4 felony, meaning it can lead to criminal charges and possible jail time.
