720 ILCS 5/33E-17 – Unlawful Participation (in a Public Contract)

This law makes it a crime for government or school employees to secretly profit from a public contract meant for the place where they work.

If someone connected to a local government or school district tries to make money or gain benefits through a public contract by cheating that government or school, they can be charged with a Class 3 felony.

Sec. 33E-17. Unlawful participation.

This law applies to anyone who is an officer, director, agent, employee, or anyone with any connection to a local government or a school district.

It is illegal for that person to take part in or benefit from any contract with that same government or school when they mean to cheat or trick it.

If a person does this, they are guilty of a Class 3 felony.
