720 ILCS 5/33E-16 – Misappropriation of Funds (Under Public Contract)
This law says that a government or school worker who wrongly uses public money on purpose can be charged with a crime.
This law makes it illegal for anyone working for a local government or school to knowingly use public money, funds, or credits in the wrong way. Doing this is considered a serious crime.
(a) A person who works for, helps, or is connected in any way with a local government or school district breaks this law if they knowingly use or spend that organization’s money, funds, or credits for the wrong reason or in the wrong way.
(b) Sentence: Breaking this law is a Class 3 felony, which means it is a serious crime that can result in time in prison and other legal consequences.
