720 ILCS 5/33-6 – Bribery to Obtain Driving Privileges
This law makes it illegal to offer or accept bribes to get a driver’s license or permit.
This statute says that no one is allowed to give or accept money, gifts, or other rewards to unfairly influence the testing or issuing of a driver’s license or permit in Illinois.
(a) A person breaks this law when they do any of the following:
- They try to influence an employee of the Secretary of State’s Office, a licensed driving school worker, or anyone allowed to give driving lessons or tests by offering a bribe or reward that person is not allowed to take.
- They try to cause someone else to influence one of these workers by offering a bribe or reward that person is not allowed to take.
- If they are one of these workers, they ask for, take, keep, or agree to take a bribe or reward they are not allowed to accept, knowing it was offered to influence how they do their job related to giving or issuing driver’s licenses or permits.
- If they are one of these workers, they ask for, take, keep, or agree to take a bribe or reward in return for agreeing to act unfairly or use their role to affect someone’s license or permit.
(b) Sentence: Bribery to obtain driving privileges is a Class 2 felony. This means it is a serious crime that can lead to prison time and other penalties.
