720 ILCS 5/33-2 – Failure To Report A Bribe

This law says that government workers or jurors must report any bribe offer right away or it’s a crime.

This statute makes it a crime for public officials, employees, or jurors not to tell the proper authorities if someone tries to bribe them. If they don’t report it, they can be charged with a Class A misdemeanor.

Sec. 33-2. Any public officer, public employee, or juror who does not quickly tell the local State’s Attorney–or, if the person works for the State, the Illinois State Police–about an offer of a bribe has committed a Class A misdemeanor.

If a State employee reports the bribe offer to the Illinois State Police, they have done what the law requires and do not need to take further action. Once the Illinois State Police get the report, they must immediately send a copy of it to the right State’s Attorney.
