720 ILCS 5/32-6 – Performance of Unauthorized Acts (In Official Matters)
This law says it’s a crime to do certain official jobs if you’re not legally allowed to do them.
This Illinois law makes it a Class 4 felony for someone to perform certain official actions, like conducting a marriage or signing documents, if they know they don’t have the legal right to do so.
(a) If someone performs a marriage ceremony without being authorized by law, they are breaking this law.
(b) If someone confirms or certifies a document that can be officially recorded without legal permission, they are violating this law.
(c) If someone signs as a surety (a person who promises to be responsible for another in court) in a civil or criminal case before a court or official without being allowed to do so, they are committing this crime.
Sentence: Doing any of these acts knowingly without authorization is a Class 4 felony.
