720 ILCS 5/31-6(d) – Escape While Armed

This law says that escaping while carrying a dangerous weapon is a very serious crime.

If someone tries to get away from jail or custody and has a weapon with them, they can face harsher punishment because it is seen as more dangerous.

(d) A person who breaks another part of this law (like escaping from prison or running away from a police officer while arrested) while carrying or having a dangerous weapon is committing a Class 1 felony. This means they were not only escaping but also had something that could hurt others, making the offense much more serious.
