720 ILCS 5/26-1(a)(2) – Disorderly Conduct – False Fire Alarm

This law makes it illegal to send a fake fire alarm when there isn’t really a fire.

This Illinois law says that it’s against the law to knowingly make or send a false fire alarm to the fire department. If someone does this, it’s a serious crime and can lead to a felony charge and community service hours.

(a) A person commits disorderly conduct when he or she knowingly:

  1. Sends or causes someone else to send a false fire alarm to a fire department, knowing there isn’t really a fire or a good reason to believe one exists.

(b) Sentence: Breaking subsection (a)(2) is a Class 4 felony, which is a serious crime under Illinois law.

(c) In addition to other punishments, the court must assign between 30 and 120 hours of community service if the county offers it and has approved a program. If the person is given supervision instead of jail time, the supervision must include community service. This rule doesn’t apply if the person is sent to jail.
