720 ILCS 5/26-1 – Disorderly Conduct – Breach of Peace
This law says it’s illegal to act in a way that unreasonably upsets others and causes trouble or a public disturbance.
This law makes it against the rules to act in a way that knowingly bothers or alarms people and causes a disruption of peace. If a person does this, they can be charged with a misdemeanor and may have to do community service.
(a)(1) A person commits disorderly conduct when they knowingly act in an unreasonable way that disturbs or alarms another person and causes a public disturbance or trouble.
(b) Sentence: Breaking this rule is a Class C misdemeanor.
(c) Besides any other punishment, the judge must order a person found guilty of disorderly conduct to do community service for at least 30 hours and no more than 120 hours, if community service is available and approved in that area. If the person is put on supervision for this offense, they must also complete community service. This part does not apply if the court gives a jail sentence instead.
