720 ILCS 5/24-2.2 – Unlawful Manufacture or Sale of Armor-Piercing or Incendiary Ammunition
This law makes it illegal to make or sell certain dangerous types of bullets or shotgun shells.
This Illinois law says you can’t knowingly make, sell, or give away bullets or shells that are designed to pierce armor or cause fire, unless you’re legally allowed to do so. Breaking this law is a serious crime.
(a) It is against the law for anyone to knowingly make, sell, offer to sell, or give any bullet or shotgun shell that is said to be armor-piercing, a dragon’s breath shell, a bolo shell, or a flechette shell.
(b) Exemptions: This rule does not apply to people who are legally allowed to make, sell, buy, have, or carry those kinds of bullets or shells, as long as what they are doing is within the limits of their legal permission.
(c) When someone is charged with breaking this law, the court does not need to prove that the person doesn’t have an exemption. Instead, the person charged must show that they were legally allowed to do what they did.
(d) Sentence: Breaking this law is a Class 4 felony, which is a serious crime that can lead to prison time or fines.
