720 ILCS 5/17-8.3 – False information on an application for employment with certain public or private agencies; use of false academic degree
This law makes it illegal to lie about your work history, license, or degree when applying for certain jobs or schools.
This Illinois law says you cannot knowingly give false information about your background or use a fake degree to get a job, raise, or school admission. Doing so is a crime that can lead to serious penalties.
(a) It is against the law to give false information when applying for a job at a public or private agency that helps people with mental illness or developmental disabilities. This includes lying about things like your certifications, licenses, criminal history, or past jobs within the past five years if the job would involve being around those individuals.
(b) It is also against the law to use a fake academic degree to get a job, get into college or a graduate program, or to earn a promotion or higher pay at work.
(c) Sentence: Breaking this law is a Class A misdemeanor, which is a serious offense that can bring criminal consequences.
