720 ILCS 5/17-34 – Sale of a Credit or Debit Card

This law makes it a crime to sell or buy someone else’s credit or debit card without permission.

This Illinois law says that it is against the law to sell or buy a credit or debit card without the permission of the card company that issued it. Doing this can lead to serious punishment, especially if it involves more than two cards at once.

Sec. 17-34. A person who sells a credit or debit card without permission from the card company (the issuer) is committing a Class 4 felony.

A person who buys a credit or debit card from anyone other than the company that issued it, and without the company’s permission, is committing a Class 4 felony.

If someone buys or sells three or more credit or debit cards belonging to other people in one transaction, that person is committing a Class 3 felony.
