720 ILCS 5/17-33 – Possession of Lost or Mislaid Credit or Debit Card

This law makes it a crime to keep and plan to use or sell someone else’s lost credit or debit card.

If someone finds a credit or debit card that they know doesn’t belong to them and decides to keep it to use, sell, or give away, that person can be charged with a felony. The punishment becomes more serious if it happens with three or more cards belonging to different people at the same time.

If a person finds and keeps a credit or debit card that they know was lost or misplaced, and they plan to use it, sell it, or give it to anyone other than the owner or bank that issued it, they have broken the law.
Sentence: This is a Class 4 felony.

If a person does this with three or more credit or debit cards that each belong to different people, all in one incident, they have broken the law in a more serious way.
Sentence: This is a Class 3 felony.
