720 ILCS 5/12-5.5 – Common Carrier Recklessness

This law makes it a crime for someone in charge of public transportation to act recklessly and put others in danger.

This Illinois law says that if a person drives or controls a bus, train, taxi, or any other type of public transportation and acts carelessly in a way that could harm others, they can be charged with a crime. The punishment for this crime is a Class 4 felony.

(a) A person breaks this law if they are in charge of or have control over any public vehicle that carries people–like a bus, subway, or airplane–and they act recklessly in a way that could put others in danger.

(b) Sentence: The punishment for common carrier recklessness is being found guilty of a Class 4 felony, which is a serious crime.
