720 ILCS 5/10-3 – Unlawful Restraint

This law says it’s a crime to hold or keep someone somewhere against their will without legal reason.

If a person keeps someone else from leaving or stops them from moving freely, and they have no legal right to do it, that person can be charged with unlawful restraint, which is a Class 4 felony.

(a) A person breaks this law when they knowingly stop or hold another person without having legal power or permission to do so.

(b) Sentence: The punishment for unlawful restraint is a Class 4 felony, which can lead to 1-3 years prison time.
