720 ILCS 5/12C-45 – Drug Induced Infliction of Harm to a Child Athlete

This law makes it illegal to give or encourage a kid under 18 to take drugs to change their weight for sports.

This Illinois law says it’s a crime to knowingly give or push someone under 18 to take drugs to gain or lose weight quickly for athletic reasons. Doctors and normal store sales are not affected. First-time offenders can go to jail for a misdemeanor, and repeat offenders face a felony charge.

(a) A person breaks this law if they knowingly give, sell, or encourage a person under 18 to take a drug so that the young person can quickly gain or lose weight for sports.

(b) This law does not apply to care provided by a doctor following normal medical standards, or to the sale of medicines or products by regular stores.

(c) Sentence: A first-time offense is a Class A misdemeanor. Doing it again is a Class 4 felony.
