Certain sex offenders can’t go near daycares or talk to kids there
In Missouri, people convicted of certain sex-related crimes are not allowed to go near or hang around child care centers. They also can’t talk to kids there—unless they are the child’s parent or legal guardian.
1. Anyone convicted of specific crimes like incest, child pornography, child exploitation, or child endangerment cannot:
- Be inside a daycare or child care facility
- Loiter (hang around) within 500 feet of the building or property
- Approach, talk to, or contact any child under 18 at the facility
This applies when children are present and unless the person is the parent, guardian, or legal custodian of a child who is there.
2. “Child care facility” includes any licensed daycare or any place that acts like a daycare and is regulated by the state.
3. Breaking this law is a class A misdemeanor, which could mean jail time or other serious penalties.
